10,000 simulated paths, net of a 27 bps blended fund cost and before tax. Eight paths in ten finished inside the shaded band and one in ten finished below it. A projection is a model output, not a promise.

Three portfolios, four sleeves each

We do not pick stocks and we do not chase a fund manager. Each portfolio is the same four building blocks in different proportions, and the only decision we make on your behalf is which proportions suit the money you are investing and when you need it back.

What actually happens on the 2nd

One instalment, one month, drawn to scale. You pick the 2nd or the 16th; a pre-debit notice reaches you the day before; and the money takes about six hours and one settlement cycle to turn into units with your name on them.

ETFs trade in whole units, so ₹15.80 of the gold sleeve stayed behind and went out with October’s instalment. Nothing is rounded in your favour or ours.

Rebalancing is reviewed on the first working day of each month and traded only when a sleeve has drifted more than five points from target — about twice a year in practice. Redemptions run the same drawing backwards and land in the same verified bank account they came from. A capital gains statement, with the ₹1.25 lakh long-term exemption and every instalment’s holding period already worked out, reaches you each July.

For the first 10.5 years, a flat fee is the expensive option

Same instalment, same four funds, same gross return. The only difference is the plan and who gets paid: 27 basis points of direct-plan expense and our ₹4,999 flat fee on one side, 97 basis points of regular-plan expense with a distributor’s trail inside it on the other. A flat fee is a real drag on a small portfolio, and it stays one for a decade.

A projection, not a record: ₹10,000 a month for 20 years compounding at the Balanced portfolio’s assumed 10.6% a year, net of fund costs, with the advisory fee stepping up to ₹11,999 and ₹24,999 as the portfolio crosses ₹25 lakh and ₹1 crore. Over the twenty years that is ₹1,62,980 of advisory fees paid in cash. Regular-plan expense ratios vary by scheme; 97 bps is the weighted average of the regular plans of these same four funds. Nothing here is a guaranteed or assured return.

How far down it went

Returns are the number people quote. The number that decides whether anyone stays invested is this one: how far below its own high-water mark a portfolio sat, and for how long.

Back-tested on the monthly index series behind each sleeve, rebalanced monthly, net of fund expense ratios. The benchmarks are CRISIL Hybrid 85+15 for Conservative and Nifty 500 TRI blended with short-duration debt 65:35 and 80:20 for Balanced and Growth. They carry no fee of any kind, which is why two of the three portfolios sit below theirs once our ₹4,999 comes out. On a portfolio this size that fee is worth more than a percentage point a year — the same arithmetic as the chart above this one.

Gold roughly quadrupled in rupee terms over this stretch and did most of the work of keeping the 2025 fall shallow. We do not assume it repeats, and the forward assumption we use for gold is 8.5% a year. Past performance does not indicate future returns, and a back-test is not a record of money anyone actually invested.

What we can actually do

Place buy and sell instructions on the mandate you signed, and see your holdings. We cannot move money to any account but the verified bank account it came from.

Before a redemption can move

Two-factor sign-in, device binding, and a 24-hour cooling period on a newly added bank account. The proceeds go back where the instalments came from.

“My father had been sold five regular-plan funds by a family friend. Moving them took a fortnight of paperwork. What convinced me was that the simulator showed the bad case as plainly as the good one — nobody had ever done that.”
