Set at the size of the demand: how many tutors teach it, then the median hourly rate they charge. The smallest here, Carnatic vocal, still has 41 teachers within Chennai.
Counted Friday 4 September, 6 am
One mark for every twenty tutors. Anna Nagar alone accounts for ten and a half of them.
One mark for each. A tutor travels 6 km on average to reach a home class.
One mark for every class in twenty-five. Twenty-four are rated four or five stars; the dim one is not.
Class, board and area. Say whether you want the tutor at your home or online, and roughly what you can spend per hour.
Every tutor shows an hourly rate, a rating from real students and how long they take to answer. The median across Chennai is 11 minutes.
Forty-five minutes with the tutor you chose. Book more only if it clicked. You pay after each class, never in advance.
These sixteen hold 1,747 tutors between them. The other twenty-two localities share the remaining 393, which is why Ambattur and Tambaram parents usually start with an online trial.
Home classes carry no travel charge inside a tutor’s stated radius.
Booked again after the trial by 9 in 10 families.
Every tutor’s week is public and changes the minute a class is booked. Ten regular students, most of them at the same hour every week. Yellow is what is left of it.

Twenty-two hours booked out of the twenty-seven she teaches. Dashed is an hour Sangeetha does not work — she keeps Sundays clear and only starts at 6 am on the two mornings her Class 12 board-exam group meets.
₹199 for the first 45 minutes, ₹650 an hour after that.
“We tried three tutors from a WhatsApp group before this. The difference is the trial. Sangeetha spent the first twenty minutes finding out what Karthik did not understand, not teaching.”
“Arun sir’s NEET Biology class is online from Velachery at 8 pm, which means my daughter is asleep by 10. His rate is on the page. Nobody called us to negotiate.”
Set your own hourly rate and the areas you will travel to. We check ID and degree once, send you students who match, and pay every Friday to your bank.
