Pangong Tso, 4,350 m — day 5 of a week we planned last Tuesday
Wanderlist writes real Indian itineraries: permits, road times measured on the road, how high you sleep, and what the whole thing costs in rupees. Move one day and the rest re-plans around it.
The same panel pins beside every plan you open.
Season and permit decide an Indian trip before taste gets a say. Ladakh is the only summer on this list — everything else runs from October to March.
Passes open through May; the Shyok road goes with the first heavy snow.
Worth it once the south-west monsoon has drained off the backwaters.
Sohra takes 11 m of rain a year, nearly all of it May to September.
Jodhpur is 42°C by late March. November to February is the whole season.
This is the September week in the panel above, plotted metre by metre against the 777 km you drive. Two nights on the valley floor, then Khardung La at 5,359 m on the third morning. Nobody sleeps high until they have slept low twice.
The two gold rings are checkposts. Your Inner Line Permit is applied for in your names at ₹400 plus ₹20 a person a day, collected at the DC office in Leh on day 2, and in your inbox as a PDF before you fly — the constable at South Pullu and the one at Lukung will each want to see it.
Every hour in this plan is either daylight you can use or road you have to cover. Day 3 leaves at 06:30 because the army convoys start up Khardung La at seven; day 4 is six hours in a car for four hours in Turtuk, and we say so before you book it.
A planner calls for twenty minutes: how much walking, how early you get up, whether anyone in the group has been above 4,000 m before. The first draft comes back in two working days.
Permits are filed, the driver is named, and every booking is re-confirmed against the road status. If Chang La is shut you hear it from us, not from the driver at the checkpost.
The same planner is on WhatsApp from 06:00 to 23:00 IST. Rain in Sohra, a closed pass, a stomach that has had enough — the day gets rewritten and the panel updates on your phone.
Ladakh, 14–20 September 2026, two travellers out of Chennai₹1,04,800
One twin room, one Innova, one driver.
Two rooms. Same car, same driver, split four ways.
Three rooms and a second vehicle out of Leh. The saving stops here.
“We had booked Ladakh ourselves in 2023 and spent day two on a drip in Leh. This time the plan refused to let us go anywhere near a pass until Wednesday, and all four of us walked the dunes at Hunder.”
Twelve questions, then a first draft in two working days. Nothing to pay until you like the plan.
