Campus tour
This is the walk our Grade 8 guides give visiting families on Saturdays. Fourteen minutes at a child's pace, eleven acres, and the river on your left the whole way back. The minutes on each stop are from the gate.
Follow the line. Each stop has the minutes from the gate, one thing to notice, and the photograph the guide would point at.
Two gates, one for buses and one for feet. Mr Ganesan has signed visitors in here since the school opened in 2009.
The first thing you see. The tree is older than the school; the assembly happens under it on Fridays and everything else happens around it.
Pre-KG to UKG, single storey, every room opening onto its own patch of garden. Nap mats in the cupboard by the door.
Grades 1 to 5 across two floors around an open stairwell. The PYP unit boards line the corridors and change six times a year.
Twenty-one thousand books, a Tamil section that is actually used, and the only air conditioning on the ground floor.
Lunch is cooked here, not delivered. Three sittings, one menu, sambar most days. The steps outside face the river.
Three science labs and a design workshop with a laser cutter, on the first floor of the senior block. IGCSE practicals live here.
A black box theatre for ninety, two music rooms with veena and drum kit side by side, and a printmaking studio that smells of it.
A full-size football pitch that becomes two cricket nets and a 200-metre track in season. Sports day is in January, when it is bearable.
Twenty-five metres, six lanes, shaded. Every child swims from Grade 1; by Grade 4 they can swim the length of the river frontage.
Four hundred metres of bank along the Adyar, with a study deck over the mangroves where field science happens and the Grade 5 Exhibition is held.
Where the walk ends and the rowing programme begins. Eight boats, a slipway, and a bench where parents wait for the crews to come back in.
Visits run at 9:00 and 11:00 every Saturday from October to January, six families at a time. Wear shoes you can walk the riverbank in.
