What we do, and what it costs

All twelve treatments and prices
  • Check-up and X-ray

We look at every tooth, your gums and your bite, and take one or two small X-rays to see what the eye cannot.

    ₹600 – ₹900

  • Scaling and polishing

The hardened plaque along your gum line is broken up with an ultrasonic tip and washed away, then the teeth are polished smooth.

    ₹1,200 – ₹1,800

  • Tooth-coloured filling

The decayed part is cleaned out and rebuilt with composite resin matched to your tooth. No silver, no black line.

    ₹1,500 – ₹3,000

  • Root canal, single sitting

The infected nerve inside the tooth is removed, the canals are cleaned and sealed, and the tooth is closed the same day.

    ₹6,000 – ₹9,500

  • Clear aligners

A series of transparent trays, changed at home every ten days, that move crowded or gapped teeth into line. You take them out to eat.

    ₹1,20,000 – ₹1,90,000

  • Single implant with crown

A titanium post is placed in the jaw where a tooth is missing, left to fuse for three to four months, then a crown is fitted on top.

    ₹38,000 – ₹55,000

Where the work actually goes

Thirteen years of appointment books, sorted onto the tooth each entry belongs to. It is not spread evenly, and once you see where it collects you can guess most of what we spend the day doing.

  1. 1

    649 entries on two teeth

    Teeth 36 and 46

The lower first molars carry more work between them than the four upper front teeth put together. They arrive at six years old, into a mouth that cannot yet brush the back properly, and their grooves are deep enough to hide a bristle.

  2. 2

626 entries, and 583 are the same procedure

    Teeth 18, 28, 38, 48

Wisdom teeth. Almost everything recorded on them is removal — usually the lower two, usually between 22 and 30, usually because the tooth in front of them has started to decay where it cannot be cleaned.

  3. 3

    242 entries, nearly all bonding

    Teeth 11 and 21

The two upper front teeth, and the corner broken off one of them. Scooters on Santhome High Road, a cricket ball at Nandanam, and one doorframe in a flat off CP Ramaswamy Road.

What a root canal actually is

Almost everyone who books one has been told a story about it by somebody else. Here is the tooth, and here is what we take out of it.

  1. 1

    Enamel

The hard white shell. It has no nerve in it at all, which is why a chip can look alarming and feel like nothing.

  2. 2

    Dentine

Softer, yellower, and full of microscopic tubes that run inward. Decay moves quickly once it is through the enamel and into here.

  3. 3

    The pulp

Nerve and blood supply. This is the part that keeps you awake at two in the morning, and the part a root canal takes out.

  4. 4

    Three canals

A lower first molar usually has three, sometimes four. Every one has to be cleaned the whole way to its tip — miss a millimetre and the tooth aches again in a year.

  5. 5

    The abscess

Infection that has left the tooth and started on the jawbone. On an X-ray it is a dark circle. It is also the reason we do not simply give you antibiotics and send you home.

Ninety minutes, one appointment, and the tooth is closed before you leave. Dr. Suresh does four of these in a normal week.

  1. Numb, then isolated

    First 10 minutes

    Numb, then isolated

Local anaesthetic, then a rubber sheet clamped around the tooth. Nothing from the rest of your mouth reaches it, and nothing from it reaches you.

  2. Opened from the top

    Next 20

    Opened from the top

A small door is cut through the biting surface into the chamber, and the canal openings are found. This is where a microscope earns its cost.

  3. Cleaned to the tip

    Next 40

    Cleaned to the tip

Fine files and sodium hypochlorite take out the nerve and shape each canal. The working length is measured electronically and checked on an X-ray.

  4. Filled and closed

    Last 20

    Filled and closed

Gutta-percha and sealer fill the canals, a core closes the opening, and you go home with a whole tooth. The bone around the tip fills back in over about six months.

Who is in, and when

Saturday closes at 6 pm. Sunday is the emergency number only. Two appointments a day — 11.30 am and 5.15 pm — are never given out in advance; they are there for whoever wakes up in pain that morning.

Braces and aligners for adults, and every patient under fourteen. Thursday afternoons are kept for children only.

Where your instruments have been

People rarely ask. They should. This is the route every instrument takes between one patient and the next, and you are welcome to stand in the doorway and watch it happen.

The moment you leave
Instruments go straight into an enzymatic bath. Nothing is wiped and reused.
Within ten minutes
Ultrasonic cleaner for 15 minutes, then rinsed, dried and inspected under light.
18 minutes at 134 °C
A Class B vacuum autoclave — the type that sterilises hollow handpieces, not just flat tools.
Sealed and dated
Each pouch carries the date and the autoclave cycle number. Anything older than 21 days is run again.
Every Monday
A spore test goes through the machine with the day's load and is sent out for culture.
In front of you
Your pouch is torn open at the chair, after you sit down. Burs and needles are new, and go into the yellow bin as you watch.

Everything we charge, on one line

A logarithmic scale, because a check-up and an implant do not sit on the same ruler otherwise. The ranges are real. The estimate you get after the X-ray is a single number inside one of them, and we hold it for 90 days.

₹15,000 — split it from here
  • Check-up and two X-rays
    one visit, 25 minutes
    ₹600 – ₹900
  • Scaling and polishing
    one visit, 40 minutes
    ₹1,200 – ₹1,800
  • Tooth-coloured filling
    one visit per tooth
    ₹1,500 – ₹3,000
  • Root canal, single sitting
    one visit, then a crown
    ₹6,000 – ₹9,500
  • Zirconia crown
    two visits, eight days apart
    ₹8,000 – ₹14,000
  • Implant with its crown
    five visits across five months
    ₹38,000 – ₹55,000
₹600₹2,500₹10,000₹55,000

Only the implant crosses the dashed line. Aligners at ₹1,20,000 and braces at ₹35,000 sit off the right-hand end of this chart altogether — those we split as a matter of course, and nobody has ever been asked to pay for orthodontics in one go.

Splitting ₹46,500 three ways

One implant with its crown — the treatment we are asked to split most often. Same work, same day, three different totals.

  • 3 months
    ₹15,500 a month
    we add nothing
  • 6 months
    ₹8,060 a month
    ₹1,860 bank interest
  • 9 months
    ₹5,590 a month
    ₹3,810 bank interest
₹46,500, the treatment

Three months costs you nothing extra — we absorb it. Six and nine carry Bajaj Finserv’s interest, shown here in rupees rather than as a percentage, because a percentage is not what leaves your account. You can also split it on your own card at whatever your bank charges. Nothing is signed before you have seen these three numbers.

“I had put off a root canal for two years because nobody would tell me what it would cost or how bad it would be. Dr. Suresh wrote down ₹8,000 and said it would ache for three days. It cost ₹8,000 and it ached for three days.”
Lakshmi Narayanan — patient since 2021, Alwarpet
